The Solid Chemistry Conference SCC 2023 will be held at the Barceló Concorde Green Park Palace Hotel in Port El Kantaoui, in the region of Sousse in the central eastern part of Tunisia. Welcoming participants, distribution of documents and check in will start on Sunday 17 December 2023 from 14:00 (for latecomers on Monday 18 December 2023 after first lectures). Check out will be on Wednesday 20 December 2023 after lunch.

Sousse in a few words
Located in the Tunisian Sahel, Sousse is a city port in the east of Tunisia, at about 140 kilometers south of the capital Tunis and open to the Gulf of Hammamet (Mediterranean Sea). It is the third largest city in Tunisia after Tunis and Sfax. Although it is associated with olive oil manufacture and has other industries. An olive grove covering more than 2,500 km² constitutes one of its main riches since antiquity. But the tourism sector predominates today.
Sousse was an important commercial and military port during the Aghlabid period (800–909) and is a typical example of a town dating from the first centuries of Islam. With its kasbah, ramparts, medina (with the Great Mosque), Bu Ftata Mosque and typical ribat, both a fort and a religious building, Sousse was part of a coastal defence system.
The Medina of Sousse constitutes a harmonious archaeological complex that reflects Arabo-Muslim urbanism applied to a coastal town exposed through its history to piracy and dangers from the sea. With the Medina of Monastir, it constitutes the unique prototype of military coastal architecture of the first centuries of Islam that has been passed down to us. Several monuments of the medina bear witness to this robust, ascetic and imposing architecture. The Medina also comprises juxtaposed dwellings divided into quarters that separate the winding alleys and narrow paths, a fast disappearing type of layout threatened by modern life and the evolution of architectural techniques.
When Tunisia became independent in 1956, Sousse was made a wilayah capital and it continued to expand in all directions. Over the course of the 20th century, its growth was explosive: from just 8,577 residents in 1885, it had grown to 134,835 residents in 1994. The population is estimated at 200,000 nowadays.
